I am honoured to witness and to work alongside each client I meet. I am humbled by the strength and resiliency that each individual possesses. I value the collaborative and relational nature of counselling, and will work with you from a place of warmth, non-judgement, and acceptance.
At times, life transitions and change can become too challenging to face on our own. Before becoming a counsellor, I grew up struggling to find my footing between different social groups and environments. I commonly experienced a tension in how my various cultural and group memberships had me experiencing connection as well as alienation from others and from myself.
I was inspired to become a counsellor as I heard from others, including friends, family members, and the children, youth, and adults I had worked alongside, sharing their own stories of working through life’s challenges, their emotional scars, and in triumphing despite hurdles and injustices. As a counsellor, I endeavour to create a safe and welcoming space for you to explore and share your own story.
I have worked with clients primarily through a relational, humanistic, and person-centred lens. I have continued to build my competency in trauma-informed practices and in child and youth counselling. I hold a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Counselling and Human Development from Simon Fraser University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Victoria.
Person-Centred and Humanistic
You are the expert on your own life. I follow your lead and take my cues from what you bring to each session.
Relational
The relationship between client and counsellor matters. I prioritize building genuine trust and a sense of safety before anything else.
Trauma-Informed
I work with an awareness of how past experiences shape the present, and I take care not to move faster than you are ready for.
Culturally Sensitive
I bring personal understanding to the experience of holding multiple cultural identities, and I approach each client’s context with curiosity and respect.
